English is an important curriculum in senior vocational technical college. How to betterrealize the training goal of higher vocational education, promoting students’ employment,also can meet the requirement of cultivating compound talents, and lay a solid foundation forlifelong learning and occupation development of the students, give full play to the function ofbasic courses. It is important that researchers and practitioners of English Teaching in HigherVocational Colleges need a clear analysis and solve these problems. At present, in most of seniorvocational technical college, public English teaching still adopted the knowledge-oriented as itsteaching mode, focusing on imparting knowledge, but despising ability cultivation, especiallythe occupational quality. It is a scaled down version of the college English teaching, andcontradict to the goal of the higher vocational education that to train advanced technicalapplied talents, whom master the basic theory and specialized knowledge; also equipped withcomprehensive quality and ability for daily works. In order to solve this problem, this thesisbased on the literature research, combined with individual teaching practice to doinvestigation and study. Based on the analysis on the connotations of occupational quality andthe requirements for advanced technical applied talents who are adapted to China’s economicdevelopment, to propose an idea which taking occupational quality-oriented for the PublicEnglish teaching reform.Through analyzing the five aspects involving teaching concept,teaching mode, teaching methods, curriculum framework, staff arrangement, languagelearning environment and evaluation system etc., To study the current state of the publicEnglish teaching in senior vocational technical college and the gap between its tooccupational quality-oriented objective. Drawing lessons from the foreign language teachingconcept CBI and VESL teaching mode, to recognize that, in public English teaching reform,have to innovate the occupational quality-oriented as teaching concept, integrated with themajor, and adopted3S teaching mode, to explore the new mode and effective methods withtaking professional quality as the guide, to strengthen the ability of teaching staff, to optimizethe environment of English teaching and to implement the diversified English abilityevaluation system, to fulfill the all-round reform of public English teaching in senior vocational-technical college. To fully manifesting the characteristics and effects of publicEnglish teaching in senior vocational-technical college, and attempting to provide usefulguidance and basis for English teaching in senior vocational-technical college.
