As a representative of neorealist novel in 1980's, FangFang is mainly valued by her style of new realism. Her novels are characterized of zero-sensiblity, daily life, pessimistic humour and proterozoic estate. Opposite to the tradition of desire of gain, her novels are highly regarded for the value of realism and innovation in structure. Her choose of objectives and her way of writing bring to the readers fresh-new feelings.The stories written by FangFang is featured with not only modern conscionsness, but also philosophic theory. Probing into the value of life, FangFang reflects on human's existence, creating kind of literary state. The thesis makes analysis on FangFang and her novels form a existential view.Introduction part of the thesis makes a brief presentation on the basic view of existentialism and the structure of the paper itself.The main part of the thesis analyzes existentialism in FangFang's works.Part 1 FangFang and existentialismCombining environment and personal experience, the first part analyzes the background and process of existential influence on FangFang.Part 2 Subjects of existentialismChoosing subjects of rell-like experience, tragic life, illogical absurdity, struggle & degeneration and death & thought, the thesis discusses the relation between existentialism and FangFang's works, including the following parts as experience, tragedy, absurdity, choose and death. By doing so, the thesis draws a conclusion that existentialism exists in FangFang's works.Part 3 Overstep above existentialismAfterall, FangFang is not totally a existentialist. There also exists non-existential thoughts in her mind. She thinks that the root of tragedy is destiny. She advocates that man should try to change life by way of pessimistic homour, rather than taking the attitude of zero-emotion. Pessimism and homour constitute the contradiction in her mind. It is just through the contradiction that we find the courage in FangFang's attitudetowards life.All in all, as representative of the new generation of writers, FangFang is obviously influenced by existentialism. It is not only kind of tendency, but also kind of consciousness. As one part of her views on life, existentialism becomes an important aspect in her reflection on human existence and the value of life. FangFang palys her role in the life of people in her novels, rather than just observing from outside. Her novels tell us about her thirst for and her ideals in life. It is just because of this that we regards her as a writer with strong sense of realism and sense of social responsibility.
