Bamboo, which is widely scattered over the world, has been utilized by human for a long history .As the environmental problems becoming more serious, people have begun to focus on ecology concept. So with a good ecological adaptation, bamboo appears in people's vision again. The major problem we study at present is how to use this traditional material properly, so that can exert its potential use.The first part of the paper shows that as a kind of design material, bamboo has good values of ecological, economic and cultural. Then it demonstrates the relevance of these values. The following parts go further to probe into the theme on how to develop and put these values to advantage in modern time. On this basis, and considering the present condition of Chinese bamboo industry, it come along with the results that the processors should rely on design, and make efforts to create and promote the added values of bamboo products. So they can turn "catering to the market "to "leading the market ", change their inferior position in the market competition. Our final goal is making the bamboo products well received by consumers and promoting the industry steadily.
