This article is on Cai Que, who is one of the persons belonging to Wang Anshi reformgroup.In middle Northern Song, there appeared serious problems as "Long Guan", "LongBing" and "Long Fei", which led to governing crisis due to the fixed system drafted in theearsy Song and still abided by emperors now. It could not meet the need of the society inmiddle Northern Song. However, that period witnessed the resurrection of Ru Xue, whichadvocated practical idea. Scholars and officials from the south began to rise and be active. Allthe above lay a foundation for Wang Anshi reform.Cai Que was recommended to and became a member of Wang Anshi reform group dueto his elegant writing style. He was responsible for impeaching officials, recommendingtalents, taking part in legal trail and giving advices, which embodied his wise, pragmatic andmade him a core member of the reform group.When he was prime minister and at Si Nong Si, he supported and practiced the reformpositively. His reforms on Ti Ju Chang Ping Si and Si Nong Si resulted in efficiency. At sametime, he became keen for power and project and was in discord with Wang Gui and WangAnli.Yuan You period was valley for his political life. Because of cliquey struggle, he was the1st officials to be exiled Yuan You political transition. He was sent to Ling Nan after "Che GaiTing Shi An", which was a result of multiple factors: cliquey struggle, relation between ZheZong and Xuan Ren Tai Hou, discord between Cai Que and Wu Chuhou, Cai Que himself, etc."Che Gai Ting Shi An" resulted in bad influence on Cai Que and Wu Chuhou, the clique,even to Northern Song society.Cai Que's friends-making was helpful to his officialdom. His article, especially poemsdelivered a moderate and free style, on which he got many chances to be recommended andimproved.Comment on Cai Que is an inevitable question. This article would analyse which classCai Que belonging to, using the way of historical materialism of Marxism. It is pointed outthat Cai Que's main aspect should be his contribution to the reform, while his charactershoulb be the subordinate aspect. It is not accurate to list him in "Jian Chen Zhuan" in SongShi. Cai Que was a competent assitant of Wang Anshi, he contributed a lot to the reform, evento death. He should be acknowledged positively.
