Yuanjiang city lies in the north of Hunan.It is next to the Dongting Lake.The dialects in Yuanjiang can be divided into three branches:Yuanjiang dialect,Chishan dialect and Nanda dialect. The treatise investigates and studies Yuanjiang dialect(Xiang dialect).The treatise entirely describes and summarizes out the phonological system and characteristics of Yuanjiang dialect, and hopes to offer some language materials for the further study of Yuanjiang dialect and Xiang dialect.The treatise divides into six parts.The first part is introductions. This part introduces Yuanjiang city and Qionghu town's location, populations, historical course,situation of languages being used and the condition of major informants.The second part is the phonological system.In this part,we list the initials, finals and tone of Yuanjiang dialect.Then,the syllabary of homophones is made to give detail materials for understanding phonetic structure of Yuanjiang dialect.The third part is phonological characteristics.This part describes the phonological characters of Yuanjiang dialect and analyzes the rules of literary reading and colloquial reading .The forth part is the comparison between Yuanjiang sound and Middle Ancient Time sound.How the Middle Ancient Time sound develops in Yuanjiang dialect can be discovered from the comparison.The fifth part is the comparison among Yuanjiang dialect,Yiyang dialect and Taojiang dialect.In the comparison,the phonetic discrepancies among the three dialects above are displayed.The sixth part is conclusion.
