Fenyang,a county of Lvliang city,is located in the eastern foot of Lvliang Mount and the central part of Shanxi.Fenyang dialect belonging to Fenzhou of Lvliang area,a part of Jin dialect,has its own characteritics. In this thesls,l take the phonetics of Fenyang dialect as the mainly research object,and using the firsthand materials and the existing data try to provide objective description about initials, finals,tones and make the phonetic comparision between Fenyang dialect and Medieval pronunciation and one between Fenyang dialect and Mandarin by the way of the combination of synchronic and diachronic description, reveal ing its features and searching for its basic regular pattern of its development.In the field of Initials,the study analyzes26initials of Fenyang dialect,through synchronic and diachronic compari&ion comes to a conclusion:except zhi group,zhang group opening three pronouce [ts、tsb、s],remainlng zhi group, zhuang group and zhang group initials coordinate with jing group hong tones reading [ts、tsb、s],Jing group hong tones with jian xiao group single finals xi tones together read [ts、ts’、s]. Mandarin initials [z] reads [z]in fenyang dialect and[k、kh] can spell with qichihu.Regard of the finals, the study analyzes42finals’synchronic features and diachronic evolvement and comes to a conclusion that the yang rhyme of the mediaeval times including xian she, shan she,dang she, Jiang she nasal consonant disappear,main vowels nasalized;shen she, zhen she, zeng she, geng she, tong she together turn into back nasal finals[-η] expect [in、iη] turn into front nasal [-n].Besides, literary reading and colloquial reading systematicly appear in Fenyang dialect.In the respect of tones,the study describes six tones and through comparision comes to a conclusion that Fenyang dialect has the common features:it has ru sheng;ping sheng,qu sheng and ru sheng divide into yin and yang.Ancient qingping owned to yinping,ancient zhuoping owned to yangping,ancient quanzhuo shang sheng owned to qu sheng,ancient qingru owned to yinru,ancient zhuoru owned to yangru.
