Commenting On ShenCongwen's Literary Criticism

Shen Congwen is a distinctive writer in the Chinese history of modern literature.At the same time he is also a individual, influential critic. This article tries to discuss the literary criticism of Shen Congwen by reviewing the criticism idea, the form criticism and the exterior factors' criticism of the text.The first part is about the criticism idea of Shen Congwen which includes two sections. The first section deals with the criticism of seeking art and the pursue of Jingguan(静观). Shen Congwen paid great attention to experience and artistic value of works specially, So his comments related to promotion work artistry . To achieve this artistic purpose, He called for the esthetic requirement of Jingguan (静观) through two levels of appreciation and writing. The second section deals with freedom of literature and portray of classics. Shen Congwen did his utmost to safeguard the character of independence, freedom and chasteness of literature in his criticism. At the same time, he emphasized the social effect of literature to remolding ethical moral character, he also advocated esthetic education instead of religion, literature instead of classics.The second part is about Shen Congwen's form criticism. Shen Congwen paid great attention to criticize the form of the text itself, basing in returns to literature oneself, which mainly includes two sections of character and literary style. Shen Congwen's character criticism is very unique .He proposed the realization to transformation from the use of character to that of spoken language. He also commented the work from the angle of literary sty, advocating the appropriate diverse literary styles. This kind of criticism does good to the literature creation.The third part is about the exterior factors' criticism of the text. Shen Congwen not only commented the text itself, but also noticed the influence from exterior factors to the literature. He put the literature in the middle of the entire historical situation, mainly from three aspects about the market, the time, the reader .It shows that he concerned the fate of the literature survival situation. This kind of criticism angle enormously enriched the literary criticism space.
