| World War II can be classified as one of the most callous catastrophes in human history. Fortunately, this anti-fascism period witnessed the appearance of voluminous outstanding literary works, calling on people of that time fighting for peace and planting far-reaching influences among the later generations. As the wartime capital and the center for China's politics, economy and culture, Chongqing nursed many popular antiwar literary works. These works, an important component in the world's antifascist literature, stand for a comparatively high quality amidst China's antiwar literature. Therefore, we, as researchers, should approach these works with a broad vision since they also play an important role in the world's antifascist literature.Although the study of regional literature has been gaining more and more attention these years and the research of Chongqing antiwar literary works has been flourishing as well, it is far from enough if we take Chongqing's antiwar literary works as an independent literary phenomenon in our research. The study of regional literature is not to isolate itself, but to compare it with other literary phenomena, i.e., to put it into the frame of the world's antifascist literature. Unfortunately, such kind of study does not gain its due attention yet.During world II, a few Japanese writers, defying the savage propagandas for fascists and the high-handed controlling, were struggling on publishing antiwar works. Holding high the post of righteousness, they uncovered the hideous crimes of Japanese fascists and supported the Chinese people anti-Japanese war. Their fictions were among the most revolutionary literary works during that time, offering a sum of fortune for the Japanese people. By a comparative study of Chongqing anti-Japanese war literary works and Japanese antiwar literary woks, we can see a united aspiration for peace and anti-fascism.During that period, Japanese antiwar literary circles and Chinese anti-Japanese war literary circles kept constant contacts. Many Japanese antiwar writers, coming to Chongqing, wrote novels and took part in the job combating wars. By rubbing shoulders with Chongqing anti-Japanese war literary circles, the Japanese antiwar literary works took an appearance of criticizing and disclosing the Japanese fascist government.By comparing the aggressing antiwar literature and the aggressed anti-Japanese war literature, this dissertation aims at broadening literary study and seeking for the world's people's same heart of antifascism by throwing Chongqing's anti-Japanese war literary works into the background of the world's anti-fascism literature. |
