With the carrier of Tang poems, this article intensively analyzes the narration of Chinese ancient lyrics in several aspects. First, in line with our national conditions, it reconsiders the definition of narration and puts forward the opinion that the distinction between narrative poems and lyrics may be blurred in the theory of Chinese Contemporary Literature, it isn't in keeping with the real conditions of Chinese ancient poems basically. Its theoretical basis is rooted from the misuses of western literature theories. Furthermore, this article redefinites the Chinese narrative definition, which lays the foundation for the narrative research of quatrain; Second, the author unfolds this theory from three aspects: first, based on the integrity of the plot, it divides quatrains into two parts: narration for integrated plot and incomplete plot. Second, based on the narrative structures of quatrain, it divides quatrains into four types: combination of narration and argument,combination of narration and description,combination of narration and illustration,narration in all. Third, it intensively states the narrative ways of quatrains from nine aspects: title,by dreams,poetic imagery,poetic imagery,quotation,chant things,character's language,character's movements,character's psychology. The author expect to reconsider the distinctive national features of Chinese ancient lyrics and reestablishes a new train of thought of reading and appreciation of Chinese ancient lyrics by the means of researching the narrative of quatrains.
