About The Definite And Indefinite Of Nominal Components

The referent of noun is a hot problem in glossology at present, the scholars of our country has noticed the problem of the definite and indefinite of noun as early as the 50's of 20 centuries, But they usually involve it while discussing the other problem, and rare discuss it exclusively. This paper analyzed the definite and indefinite of noun from two planes—accidence plane and wording plane, and tried to research into the reason of it.The paper is divided into four chapters. Chapter one, the definite and indefinite of noun. The paper confirmed the basic concepts such as the definite and indefinite firstly, and distinguished confusable concepts, then pointed out three wording attribute of the definite and indefinite: accessibility, individuality, attainability. Chapter two, the two planes of the definite and indefinite. We could not distinguish the definite and indefinite of the noun in glossarial form because there is not Article in Chinese. This paper pointed out that the definite and indefinite of nominal components involves two planes: glossarial plane and wording plane, and the wording plane can be divided into two planes: syntax plane and pragmatics plane. We must combine the two planes while researching the definite and indefinite of noun. Henceforth, we analyze the definite and indefinite of nominal components from two aspects: syntax positions andthe special sentence, and explore its formation reason from pragmatics aspect. Chapter three, the syntax positions and the definite and indefinite of nominal components. There is consanguineous connection between the syntax positions and the definite and indefinite of nominal components. The sentence composition can influence the referent of the nominal components. Generally speaking, Subject incline to denote the definite, Object incline to denote the indefinite. In addition, about nominal components that definite and indefinite are not certain, the syntax positions decide their definite and indefinite to some extent. Chapter four, some special sentences and the definite and indefinite of nominal components. There are some connection between sentence and the definite and indefinite of nominal components, some sentences can influence the referent of nominal components.The research methods of this paper are compare and illustration etc. The paper involved the theories such as wording, pragmatics, cognize and sections and chapters.
