After a comprehensive review of the previous researches and an extensive study on existing major problems in FL teaching of listening and speaking, this thesis proposes that connection mechanisms are the critical points for the development of foreign language listening and speaking competence. Through the analysis of the native language verbal communicative process, this thesis explores the formation of connection mechanisms in native language; and on the basis of it, studies the formation of connection mechanisms in foreign language. Foreign language learning is based on native language, and both native language and foreign language share the same verbal communicative mechanism in their verbal communicative processes. Therefore, the developmental process of connection mechanisms in foreign language is in fact the process of the establishment of new connection mechanisms by overcoming the influence of native language. Lastly this thesis analyzes the root causes of the existent major problems in the teaching of foreign language listening and speaking, and puts forward suggestions for foreign language teaching.
