Possession, published in 1990, is Antonia Susan Byatt's most successful book. The present paper tries to employ feminist literary criticism to make a feminist reading of Possession and A. S. Byatt's writing. Chapter one introduces the author, the fiction, the literature review, the feminist literary criticism and the reasons of adopting it. Chapter two makes a systematic analysis of the six main female characters to disclose the restriction and limitation of women in the patriarchal culture and expounds the meaning of the title. Chapter three displays A. S. Byatt's feminine consciousness and feminist thoughts through the analysis of her delineation of the female characters. And the paper puts forward a new idea on feminist thought based on A. S. Byatt's thought. Chapter four comes to the conclusion that A. S. Byatt is a master for her great writing skills and Possession is a masterpiece which deserves many interpretations.
