Foreign language teachers are always seeking for a more effective teaching approach to implement real classroom teaching successfully, however, it is usually difficult and time-consuming to testify whether some theoretical theories or suggestions are practical or not."Writing is not only a means of communicating, but also a tool of learning a language"(Wolff 2000: 111). However, writing is well acknowledged to be the most difficult process for learners to deal with. And teaching English writing is always a tough experience for foreign language teachers. Therefore, to find an appropriate way to teach writing in classroom may benefit both the teacher and the learner.The task-based approach (TBA for short) started in the early 1980s under the influence of communicative language teaching. In this field, theoretical studies have provided materials for the coming models under task-based instruction. Among them, Jane Willis'framework which focuses much on the implementation of tasks becomes a more practical and experimental one, thus, this thesis is mainly based on Willis'framework to make a practical research by applying it to the teaching of EFL writing.The thesis falls into six chapters. Chapter one is an introduction of the aim and need of the study. Chapter two sheds light on current literature in the field. The review begins with the definition of'task'and the previous researches on task-based approach. And then Willis'Framework is presented for emphasis to make a theoretical basis for the later experiment.
