YuJi(1272------1348),whose literary works and scholarship are leading of his agein Yuan Dynasty, enjoying the reputation of "Four Great Scholars of Yuan Dynasty" with Yang Zai , Fan Peng, and Jie Xisi. He is expert at Official Script, being as famous as Wu Yan and Zhao Mengfu. This thesis concentratedly probes into four issues: Firstly, from YuJi's friend circle in calligraphy and painting, we intend to probe into the important influence of his calligraphy and painting activities on the formation of his calligraphy ideology; Secondly, in terms of the origin of his thoughts, the Confucian School of Idealist Phylosophy of his time has a comparatively deep influence on him, and it often incarnates in YuJi's art appreciation and appraisal; Thirdly, YuJi's historical ideology of calligraphy is the focal point of the thesis. His historical ideology of the restoration of ways of Wei and Jin in learning calligraphy, adopting "proficiency" and "delicateness" and following the example of calligraphers of Song Dynasty are somewhat representative; Fourthly, YuJi's historical ideology of calligraphy shares much the same with his calligraphy practice. His calligraphy theory penetrates into his practice in every script, and his Regular script , Running script, Cursive script and Seal script all follow strict regulations, with his Official script being leading in Yuan Dynasty.
