Decolonization And Literary Translation

This thesis is to research into the decolonization of literary translation in the postcolonial context from the perspective of the dominated cultures. The aim is to study how to decolonize through literary translation on a trial basis after a careful analysis of the relation between decolonization and literary translation is made.Starting with the concept of"decolonization", this thesis stresses that literary translation is a positive force and an effective channel of decolonization, and then reviews the existent decolonizing consciousness in literary translation in China, India and Brazil in modern and contemporary times. After that, it discusses how to attain the goal of decolonization of literary translation. In the end, on the basis of a summary, the significance and limitations of the current study as well as suggested future efforts are presented respectively.This thesis presents that to relate decolonization with literary translation, which is a new perspective of translation studies in the postcolonial context, is of great significance for the dominated cultures to articulate their voice in the international cultural exchange and to struggle for the equal dialogue with the dominant cultures.It is my further hope that this study will serve to enlighten the dominated cultures on their decolonization activities in the field of literary translation in the postcolonial context.
