In this translation project,the text chosen to be translated is the sixth chapter of Business Across Cultures ? ?Marketing Across Cultures?,which is co-written by Fons Trompenaars,the world's foremost authority on cross-cultural management,and Peter Woolliam,a professor of International Business at Anglia Business School.Based on cultural dimensions and the theory of archetype,the selected text gives a detailed account of the strategies and tactics adopted to achieve a successful international launch of a product or service,which is of great significance in achieving international success.By analyzing the content and function of the original text,the translator categorizes it as an informative text,in which great emphasis is put on the accuracy of the target text,greatly increasing the difficulty of the translation practice.The most formidable task is to translate terms and English tree-structure sentences.In this translation practice report,under the guidance of communicative translation theory by the famous British translation theorist Peter Newmark,the translator summarizes and concludes the common translation techniques proposed by the predecessors as well as her own experience in translation practice,and then adopts corresponding translation methods for different difficulties.Specifically,the translator resorts to parallel texts,online websites and footnotes to address the translation of terms and techniques such as division,condensation as well as shifting to render English tree-structure sentences.This translation practice report analyzes and concludes specific translation techniques for each difficulty with concrete examples from the selected text.The translator develops a further understanding of the differences between the Chinese language and the English language and their cultures during the researching process,hoping this report can serve as a reference for translation in these aspects.
