Talking The Liberal Style In Oil Painting And The Oil Painting In Impressionistic Manner

This thesis is an attempt to define the idea of oil painting in impressionistic manner in the effort to elaborate on the heatedly-discussed issue of liberal style in oil painting through answering the following questions: Whether or not does oil painting exhibit liberal style? What about the possibility of freehand brush work in oil painting? What is the spirit in the painting of liberal style and how does it go on in the new era? How does the Chinese oil painting in impressionistic manner take shape and how to define it? etc.The material framework and the spiritual appearance of oil painting in impressionistic manner is the language of oil painting and the spirit in the painting of liberal style respectively. The language of oil painting is the product of western culture and the spirit in the painting of liberal style is, however, the reflection of the spirit of Chinese art. (It should be admitted that the western art also embodies the spirit in the painting of liberal style, however the western art just embodies painting realistically in earlier stage and manifestation in later stage and moreover, the practice of freehand brush work on one's initiative and the consistent spirit in the painting of liberal style are often overlooked.) The whole thesis is divided into three parts:In the first part we will analyze the characteristic of language of western oil painting with the history of western oil painting as the objective in order to testify the liberal style in the language of western oil painting within the western philosophical and cultural context. The second part is a try to discover the spirit in the painting of liberal style in China with the traditional Chinese freehand brush work as the objective, and we will compare the liberal style in western oil painting with the Chinese spirit in the painting of liberal style and relocate it in the new era. The third part is devoted to the analysis and location of Chinese oil painting in impressionistic manner through a concrete analysis of the practice of the combination of the language of oil painting and Chinese spirit in the painting of liberal style. The former two parts is the prerequisite of the present study through the analysis of liberal style in the language of oil painting and collation and summary of Chinese spirit in the painting of liberal style. The last one is the key part of the thesis through pointing out the direction of the research of Chinese oil painting in impressionistic manner.
