This paper aims to analyze stylistic features of textbook English in college. The object of this research is a bit special because what is involved is not an inseparable variety as usual but actually a continuum of it, namely one which has its own varieties under itself. Since the specialty also means the negation of the usual research methods, a new research method is tried in the paper, that is to choose a representative point in the continuum and expect to infer the stylistic features of the whole from those of the part. The final choice is Advanced English—the highest sub-variety of textbook English in college by Language Teaching and Research Press because it contains two books and the comparison of the stylistic features of them, with some help of geometry, can further minimize the error of the inference. In fact, reliability of the research is the guideline throughout the paper. It is not only reflected on the employment of linguistic and even geometry theories, but also the various statistics involved in it. Besides, in order to reduce subjectivity, it also depends on the after-class exercises of the component lessons to set pace when analyzing Advanced English. Therefore, the research has implication not only for English teaching, testing and textbook compilation in college but for all the researches of the same kind.
