Historical Evolvement Of Semantic Field Of Chinese "Wash" Type Verbs

Main application of Semantic field theory,counting one word's frequency,combining synchronic research and diachronic research,the thesis described compared and analyzed the members in Chinese semantic field of "wash" type verbs ,and discussed its developing process from ancient times to modern times.Linguistic materials were chosen from following four periods:pre-Qin,from the Han Dynasty to South and North Dynasty,from the Sui Dynasty to the Five Dynasties,from the Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty.Then, we surveyed and counted the monosyllables with "wash" meaning.After this,we tested and described the conponent situation of "wash" semantic field in different period,so we could study these verbs replacement and changement in the history.Diachronicly comparing "wash" semantic field in different period,we explored their developing law.The whole thesis was divided into three parts:The first part was introduction,elucidating the meaning of selecting this subject and chosen reseach materials,introducing theoretic background and present situation of research,establishing method and train of thought of research.The second part is the main part.Study from two angles:one,regarded the whole changing of the field as starting point,the thesis described and analyzed each member frequency in typical literatures and its "wash" meaning and changing situation of constructure of semantic field, then diachrondy compared and analyzed the changement of semantic specific member of semantic field .Two,regarded specific member of sematic field as starting point ,the thesis researched every diachronic developing situation ,and discussed from three parts:one,the using situation and the dying out process of past words;two,the carrying on and developing situation of past words;three,the emerging and using situation of new words.The third part is summary.Through diachronicly studying "wash"type verbs'whole semantic field and each member in the semantic field in the second part,this part discussed some developing laws of vocabulary in the semantic field ,and generalized some characteristics of this semantic field in the process of diachronic development.Making use of semantic field theory ,to synchonicly describ and diachronicly compared semantic field of "wash"type verbs,we could found and generallized its replacing and changing laws ,and meanwhile comfirmed its theoretic value for studying Chinese vocabulary.
