This paper compares the Chinese"word order"with that of English from the angle of mechanisms. The author holds the opinion that the former generated under the mechanism of"composing the form by adhering to the meaning", and the latter"composing the meaning by adhering to the form".The author first analyzes the"order"between Chinese and English on the level of compound words, phrases and sentences contrastively. In Chinese, the"order"of compound words, phrases and sentences is generated by the mechanism of"composing the form by adhering to the meaning". And this mechanism is also the mechanism on analyzing the"order"of Chinese characters, thus both oral language and written characters conjoin under the shade of the same mechanism——"composing the form by adhering to the meaning". And this kind of analysis is called While in English, the"order"of compound words, phrases and sentences is generated by the mechanism of"composing the meaning by adhering to the form". By the contrastive analysis between English and Chinese"order", one can understand the features of Chinese thoroughly, thus conjoin both languages on this aspect, and this also shows"the conjunct view on language". This paper does not study the"order"of Chinese language in isolation, but analyze it in the relationship with the"order"the Chinese characters and also the English language.In the later part, the paper goes deep into the theories about the"order"of Chinese. After the comments on Shen Xiao-long's and Xu Tong-qiang's theories respectively, the author put forward the theory raised by Meng Hua, ie."composing the form by adhering to the meaning", which was posed by fully considering the former theories and going farther than them both.
