A Study Of The Influence Of The Change Of Personality Of Adhering The Former Dynasty On Qu Dajun

Being a literary author and academic of adhering the former dynasty, Qu Dajun is abreast with Chen Gongying and Liang Peilan, naming "Three Great Scholars in the South." There are some researches on Qu Dajun presently, though they are only confined to the fields of his poetry and academy. As to Qu Dajun's Ci, of which research work is still in a marginal field, is indeed eminently remarkable. This thesis is to analyze Qu Dajun's Ci from the angle of the change of Qu's personality of adhering the former dynasty.Because of the intense tints of resistance against Qing dynasty, Qu Dajun's works were either banned or destroyed frequently, which made him relatively not distinguished. The first chapter of the thesis is to give a brief introduction of life and writings of Qu Dajun.The body of this thesis is to develop from two aspects—one is from the change of personality of adhering the former dynasty, and the other one is from the change of content and style of Ci of Qu Dajun, and the relationship between these two aspects. The second chapter is to discuss the ambition of Qu Dajun in his earlier stage of life. Though Qu Dajun was a person adhering to the former dynasty, he didn't admit that identity and tried hard to restore to the dethroned monarch. And this ambition should have affected his literary creation. Thus, Qu Dajun's works in that period is full of cherished memory of former dynasty, visit and ponder on the past and comparison . Chapter three is to analyse the attitude of personality of adhering to the former dynasty at the old age of Qu Dajun and his Ci. After Qu's desperation of restoration of the former dynasty, he retired to the literary creation to preserve the literary thoughts of Ming dynasty, which made Qu's works appear to be milder. In his late works, the content are mostly about the Ci of gatherings with friends and peaceful life in the countryside, or even the Ci expressing birthday good wishes. Despite the weakening of the ambition of political struggle, Qu Dajun is a great contributor of preserving the culture of Ming dynasty.In brief, this thesis is to analyze the change of the content and style of Qu Dajun's Ci from the standing point of Qu as a man of ideals to revolt against Qing dynasty to the point as a man of personality of adhering the former dynasty. I hope that this research of Qu Dajun's Ci could be a pioneering work to get more people's attention.
