Metaphysics And Calligraphy In Medieval China

The period of Wei,Jin,South and North dynasty of medieval China is not only a period in which people's spiritual outlook is quite free and libral,and in which people attach most importance to the feeling of themselves,but also a period in which China's artists have a full consiousness in creating of their arts the first time in Chinese history .Aristocrats of that time have created the most suitable artistic style to express their feeling,which is, calligraphy . In its' own history ,chinese calligraphy in any other time was not so much splendid as in the period of Wei,Jin,South and North dynasty.And this can be explained by the metaphysics of that time. In my article, all these above will betreated with in two parts.The first part of my article is related to an analysis of the metaphysics' influence on the theory of calligrophy. This chaptor is divided into three parts. Firstly, on the appraisal of people, artists lay more stress on something about the spirit than about the body.What people more appreciate is the verve came out from the figure, so ,about calligrophy ,people often pay more attention to a neat style of handwriting and the verve of calligrophy. The calligrophy of Wei,Jin,South and North dynasty is characterized by the verve, which is the very expression of the personality of the aristocracts of that time. Secondly,on the difference between the subject of "There be" and the subject of "There not be", people are demanded to reach the infiniteness by transcending the finiteness, to get to the abstract state by passing the concrete state, to arrive at the spiritual being by passing the form, so, about calligrophy ,people often go after the calligrophy meaning of position of the figure and the verve of calligrophy.
