Language testing has always been a major concern in language teaching and learning. It is an indispensable sector of language teaching and learning. By using a proper language testing, teachers will know the degrees and potentials of students' language learning, and evaluate their levels of foreign language learning. Scientific testing can also arouse students' enthusiasm of foreign languages. But, if the language testing is not carried out properly, negative effect may be occurred.Modern science and technology has greatly advanced the development of language testing. Rapid developments in computer technology have had a major impact on test delivery. The Ministry of Education of China has already announced that College English Test Band 4 and Band 6 (CET4 & CET6) will carry a transition from manual testing to computerized testing. China will develop our own large-scale item bank for the test of English. To meet the challenge, College of Foreign Languages and Cultures Sichuan University has developed computerized College English Test system, which can satisfy the requirements of CET2 and CET3 in Sichuan Province.In the first part of the thesis, a general introduction to language testing is given and the current state of computerized testing is introduced.In the second part of the thesis, the English Exam System V2.0 is described and analyzed.In the last part, we have proposed a relatively ideal of the system improvement, which include: a simple modification of the arrangement to the database of the system; put forward a new rule for the item choice according to the famous Item Response Theory (IRT) in the construction of the paper; a dynamic modification to...
