| This thesis is concerned with culture teaching in the College English Intensive Reading class in China.The author first examines the needs of integrating culture teaching with language teaching. The author holds that language teaching in the new century should aim at developing students'intercultural communication competence, so integrating culture teaching in the language class is a must. Then a literature review of culture teaching is provided both as theoretical support for the author'study and for the purpose of indicating the lack of culture teaching research in the College English Intensive Reading class.To understand how culture teaching is currently implemented in the College English Intensive Reading class, an empirical study is made. The author concludes from the study that, although teachers have realized the importance of culture teaching, their understanding and practice of culture teaching in their classes are still weak.To solve the above problems, the author illustrates the principles and introduces the methods and techniques for teaching culture in the College English Intensive Reading class. In the last section, a model lesson plan with a detailed description of the teaching procedure and techniques is presented to reflect the author's understanding of integrating culture teaching into the College English Intensive Reading class. |
