Human, is the animal symbol, The human civilization of development and advancement is constructs with the consummation culture symbolism process. In this system, the wolf is much more unique than others symbols. Compared with the wolf appearing from all directions in previous time, today, even a mark of wolf is rarely hard to be seen. The image of wolf formed in the mind also changed, from the totemism "the god wolf", to the wicked wolf, which everybody loathes. In the human culture, the wolf also represents different and multiple significances,At present academic circles, most study on "the wolf image" is merely the interpretation on its symbolic significance and its esthetic value which the wolf represents in some works. But, comprehensive and profound interpretation is rarely provided. Here the author combed the images of wolf in culture and literature comprehensively and systematically, discussing its symbolized meanings. From the archetype to the symbol, to the metaphor, the wolf plays different and significant roles. Further, the author gives a profound and reasonable explanation on the varied symbol. Out of the humanity cultural center, the wolf is not only a very important link in the natural ecology chain, but also a necessary mirror referring to the harmony of humanity spiritual ecology.Firstly, the author combs and analyses the meaning of wolf in culture, including the wolf in words, the proverbs, as well as myth fables and the legends, which reflect that the people, living in different social environment have similar complex emotion, fear and hate, honor and respect. Such emotion even has existed in the ancient. Therefore, the wolf as a symbol, contains two kinds of cultural archetypes: the devil, the hero.Secondly, in literature, different spirits and esthetic significances are endued with the wolf. The author concludes three types of the wolf 's image, appearing in the Chinese and foreign literary works: personified wolf, real-reflected wolf and imagined wolf. So-called personified wolf, means the wolf is not itself. The wolf in the work has person's emotion and the will, the work is "wolf's account in own words". In fact, it's the projection of person. So-called real-reflected wolf , refers to the wolf which is described in the work is wolfs realistic behavior and action.
