This paper focuses on Sen. Amartya's contribution to welfare economics. As an economist applying himself to welfare economics, Sen. emphasizes on researching economical problems by the way of ethical method which has been discarded by most economist for a long time. This new method is a kind of very important dedication to our human beings resulting from an economist who possesses economical conscience. With an especial way, Sen. probes the profound economical reasons behind the common trifle such as poverty and famine. From then on. he clarifies his own point of view of welfare ethical. This paper can be divided into three parts which emphasizes on part two, with the other two parts as indispensable pavement and supplement.Part one emphasizes on introducing the development of welfare economics briefly. The welfare economics can be fell into three stages: old welfare economics, new welfare economics and the new development of new welfare economics. Then I introduce the most important part of the relationship between Sen. Amartya and welfare economics.Part two focuses on Sen.'s contribution to welfare ethic which discusses his viewpoint to right. As a key part, this one discusses his contribution from the following four sides: taking into account of right; calling for women's subject status; having an insight into the relationship between freedom and development and expounding the relationship between equality and economy.Part three discusses the meaning of welfare ethic in our days. Sen.'s welfare thought is a very important lesson for China, especially in the course of construction of harmonious society, without which the construction will lose its direction.
