Abstract: There is the strong melancholy of life revealing from novels by Xiao Qian. The complicated consciousness of life in his novels shows the sighs for the sadness and bitterness of life, and for the dreamy flashiness. And it also shows the realization of vanity of life. Xiao Qian likes to display in his novels the freedom and limitation of human beings by symbolization. Freedom is short-lived but enslavement and limitation are permanent. The paradox against it is, the appearance of human nature does not lie in the understanding and acceptance of the necessity of enslavement. On the contrary, the glory of human nature lies in the human resistance against objective necessity, even if sometimes it is at the cost of death, the horrifying form. There are sighs for true human life of sackcloth and ashes as well as the fighting against the fortune and the nobility of the human nature shown in the fighting. There are also paeans for the warmth of unselfish love in human world. The heavy drifting feeling of life in novels by Xiao Qian roots deep in the ubiquitous mutilation of the Chinese intellectuals in culture in the communication with western cultures. This feeling is the right feeling of life moved by the Chinese intellectuals up today. The double relation in the novels by Xiao Qian is made up of the lyrics. The conversion to the Christian virtues conceals deep in the structures of anti-Christianity. The childish quality in his books, the quietness with the nature, the mystery, all form beautiful recalls for the childhood, or to take the happiness of naughty children as the contrast against the indifference of the snobbish adults world. And this forms the complicated tragedian tune. The trans-romantics as the basic western cultural spirits root in the infinite pursuit of divinity by the Christian cultures. In the poetic ways of expressing feelings, Xiao Qian's works has much relation with Christian cultures, in literature concepts and ways of expressing feelings. The perfect expressions must be the union of truth and beauty. This is Xiao's idea of arts concluded from his experience of creative writings. In his novels, he gave the same stress on feelings, formations and beauty. Xiao Qian forms the simple type of aesthetics the same as in the Bible in the pursuit of beauty of art. He also borrows some writing techniques from the western novels of consciousness, except for the liking of the western romantic writers in the pursuit of the shock effects of poems.
