A phenomenon about China' s contemporary art after 1990' s is the real emergence of Feminist Art. After several thousand years' of patriarchic society and the consequent male-dominant culture, the existence of "Feminist Art" in its true sense in China is questioned, as it should be. The thesis illuminates the grounds for its existence by the analysis of the connection between the psychological, emotional and cultural elements derived from Feminist Art forms and gender characteristics of female. It can be said that Feminist Art of China in its modern sense was born in 1990' s. Different from earlier female art in China, it displayed distinct female traits; and different from Western Feminist Art, it carries strong characteristics of Chinese culture. The women artists began to become conscious of their gender identity, and found their value from the gender differences. That is exactly what has made the concept of "Feminist Art" possible in China and invested this subject with new meaning and "Post-modernist" color.
