In recent years, a newly emerged branch in the study of comparison between English and Chinese — the comparison between English and Chinese thought patterns, develops fast and receives extensive attention in the translation field. As is known, different nations and regions have their own unique thought patterns due to their different geographic, historical, economic and political backgrounds. These differences of thought patterns are surely reflected on languages and translation. In fact, many problems encountered during the course of translation are brought by the differences in thought patterns. Translators must realize these differences and their influences on languages so as to solve the problems in translation and achieve ideal effects.The thesis first discusses the close relationship between language and thought, thought and translation, and the importance of the study of thinking patterns in translation. Language and thought interact with each other. In the relationship between them, thought plays a leading role. So translation is not only a linguistic activity but also a kind of thinking activity.
