Driven by the eagerness for quick success and instant benefits, boring traditional teaching methods still dominant English teaching in Chinese universities. Such teaching methods focus on mechanical memorization while lacking an important ingredient: aesthetic consciousness. As a consequence, students have no interest in learning and teachers are bored with teaching. Therefore, it is important to infiltrate aesthetic consciousness into college English teaching. Infiltration of aesthetic consciousness into English teaching is our possible way out for the current situations in teaching and one of the matters we should pay more attention to in teaching reform. From a teaching perspective, infiltration of aesthetic consciousness means that teachers should teach with aesthetic consciousness and provide students with an aesthetic perspective so as to create a lively teaching atmosphere, which will then promote the all around development of students and the shaping of their spiritual world.The beauty of English first refers to the beauty reflected in the English language, which is mainly reflected by the metrical beauty that comes from the pronunciation and its variations, the figurative nature and style as well. Secondly, the beauty refers to the content that is reflected in two aspects: the beauty of society and the beauty of nature. The beauty of contents is defined as the beauty reflected by the figures, events, scenes and objects described in the teaching materials.
