In the great contribution of Chinese civilization to the world, Chinese ceramics has played a specific role, with China recognized as"the hometown of porcelain". Therefore, it is of great significance to translate and introduce Chinese antique ceramics (CAC). However, it's also a pitiful fact that present English translation of Chinese antique ceramics titles is frequently seen in the lack of systematic theoretical direction, unification, standardization and even correctness, which not only result in confusion to the target language readers but unfavorable to the introduction to Chinese culture as well. This dissertation, based on modern terminology, skopos theory and related cultural translation concepts, attempts to make a deeper exploration in the English translation of Chinese antique ceramics titles and suggest solutions and strategies on this subject. For the case study, the author chiefly chooses ten samples of title translation from authority publications to show the present situation clearly. Based on the discussion of translation criteria, the author stresses special importance to the faithfulness, serviceability, conciseness and terminology unification.Based on above study, the author of this dissertation claims that the unification of translation of proper names shows the translation purpose; the alienation method is preferential for the English translation of Chinese culture; a successful translator should be an expert in the related terminology, cultural aesthetics and information technology. The author also hopes with optimism that the study on the English translation of Chinese antique ceramics titles will provide reference for the title translation of traditional Chinese Painting, Ancient Bronze, Filigree, Jade Artworks, etc.
