Terminology unification is crucial to the quality control of translation projects, especiallyto those carried out in large organizations. This thesis provides an insight into the strategiesthe United Nations Chinese Translation Service located in its New York Headquarteradopts to cope with the challenges arising during the English to Chinese translation of theUN General Assembly documents. The challenges are caused by teamwork, deliveryurgency, internal and external coordination, historical issues and language evolvement, andthe translators are advised to not only focus on the terminology unification in a translationproject, but also take into consideration the unification between different projects and thecommon language usage. These strategies and the discussion around it have importantimplications to translators handling complicated translation projects. |
