Ming and Tsing Dynasties were important periods for the development of Mongolian music in the history. During these two dynasties, Mongolian nationality was set in disparate historical environments: it changed from the dominator of the vast Yuan Empire into the North Yuan Regime dominating only the border area in the north of the desert, then from the North Yuan Regime out of the reign of Han nationality in Ming Dynasty into an important member of Manchu Dynasty at the frontier. All these greatly impacted the development of music during these periods. As a regime aloof from other national cultures, the North Yuan Regime, retreating to the north of the desert, lived in their area in the way of nomadism. This greatly promoted the development of music unique to Mongolian nationality in aspects like the content and the types, and formed the music of "Changdiao" style unique to the nation. Mongolian music flourished in Tsing Dynasty, thus reviving and developing many musical forms. Besides, some new musical forms of new types and styles were developed during the musical exchanges between Tibetan and Han nationalities. After being reinforced and subdivided through Ming and Tsing Dynasties, Mongolian Music Style Area became firmly rooted and mature at the end of Tsing Dynasty.Through preliminary introduction to Mongolian music in Ming and Tsing Dynasties, this paper makes research into the developing process of Mongolian music in Ming and Tsing Dynasties from aspects like development, type, style and exchange, trying to present the history of Mongolian music vividly and clearly.
