In the feudal society with low social productivity which main occupation is farming and animal husbandry, how much the population and surplus shrinks change is one important yardstick that reflects the development degree of a society. Hehuang area is no exception. According to Marxism's point of view,"population and density is the material premise of the social internal division ". It shows that the population is the basis of social development, and the creator of social material and spiritual wealth, of course, is also the carrier of national culture.Regional ethnic minority population research is an integral part of the population study; it shares the basic commonness of demographic and has its unique characters under the influence of regional natural and human environments. The development of regional ethnic minority population research, both ancient and modern population study, can provide microscopic witness and typical case for macro population studies; it can also enrich the connotation of population studies so as to avoid the weakness and helplessness what the macro population faces in regional population research. Therefore, it has no doubt that it will strongly promote the regional development of social history study by promoting the regional population study. Thus, we have to talk about this research area:the Hehuang area.Hehuang area is the center of the ancient Qiang nationality living areas. It has been more than two thousand years since deep development started in the middle of the western Han dynasty. Due to a variety of reasons, the speed of the social development is fast or slow, or from animal husbandry to farming, or returning from agricultural and animal husbandry, or war reason, or pastoral the flute made by a Qiang nationality. During the nearly six hundred years since the Ming dynasty, it has relatively stable political situation and the social productive forces has got a rapid development, and the Hehuang area gradually becomes like a county. Generally speaking, the economic is prosperity, the culture and the ethnic population has got greatly developed during this period. From the point of view of the history location of the Hehuang area, it locates at the west of Gansu Province, the east of trapping wild, south of Guylain mountain, north of grassland.It is the sincere heart of the northwest, the treasure of motherland and the bridge between agriculture and animal husbandry, which population status shows up different features. Therefore, the discussion of minority populations and its related problems of Hehuang area cannot be not a meaningful research topic.The full text can be divided into two series, for a total of nine chapters. The first series is the ontology research on Hehuang ethnic population. The main body is to study population, namely to analyze the basic data of Hehuang area population in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The author draws on previous research results and based on the analysis of historical data, makes textual research on numbers of different nationalities and population quantity in Hehuang area during the Ming and Qing Dynasties by using various theories and methods including population, statistics, sociology, history and ethnology. This series contain the first five chapters and a summary. The first chapter is the introduction, mainly on the significance of the study; the temporal limits of study; and discusses about the natural and humanities environments that supports the development of The Hehuang population. The paper particularly introduces the historical foundation and research status which the research needs. The second and the third chapters make analysis, research and inference on the historical population data of Hehuang area in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The fourth chapter discusses the minority population in Hehuang area in different historical periods. The fifth chapter discusses the population migration and spatial structure changes in Hehuang area. On this foundation, the final summary concludes the national population and the total population of different historical stages during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.The second part is about the minority population object research in Hehuang area. It is mainly about the different social factors which are closely related to population development, and the analysis of the interaction and influence between them. This series contains the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth chapter, a total of four chapters. The sixth chapter discusses the relationship between population and agricultural production in Hehuang area. The seventh chapter talks about the status and development of the Hehuang city, which is an inevitable product when the Hehuang population develops to a certain degree. The eighth chapter discusses the impact on Hehuang population development of the natural disasters and the disaster prevention and relief systems in the Ming and Qing dynasties on the basis of the analysis natural disaster. From the history perspective of Hehuang population development, the ninth chapter is to make a further exploration on the development law of hehuang population, and to take history as a mirror in order to provide the beneficial reference for real population development.
