The Study Of Nether Marriage In Tang Dynasty

The nether marriage is one kind of special marital forms. It can be traced in the records of all the previous dynasties, and is all the more flourishing in Tang dynasty.This paper conducted the research from two parts to the afterlife marriage in Tang Dynasty. First part is for research of the Tang's nether marriage. At beginning, the foreword outlines phenomenon of the nether marriage in China from Shang Dynasty to modern society, and attempts to enable the clue which highlight the development of Chinese nether marriage to be clear. After that, we comb this custom before Tang Dynasty, analyse its inheritance in Tang from three aspects as the definition, formation of the nether marriage and its phenomenon before Tang. Finally, in order to get why this marriage is in fashion, how it's ceremony recover and what is characteristic in Tang Dynasty, we comprehensively studies the marriage by its phenomenon in society (including the nether marriage in palace and folk)and the literary work, as well as the manner toward to it by Tang people. This article thinks, in the Tang society, the manner has three: 1, approval;2, opposition; 3,shows neither approval nor disapproval.Moreover, these manner are not irrevocable, but changeable along with the social change.
