The Influence Of The Immortal Belief On The Novels

Since Southern and Northern Dynasties, the creation of marvel tales have been flourishing, and many works spread in the world which become the treasures of the Chinese literature. Among the marvel tales, many were created under the influence of the ancient nether faith. This paper aims to discuss how the nether faith affected the creation of such tales, and renders us have a deeper understanding of the precious wealth of literature other than regard them as a pastime, strange talks, or even laugh away.Besides the introduction, there are five chapters set out in the paper. The first chapter defines and limits the range of nether faith and marvel tales to be studied in the paper from the perspective of etymology and literature. The second chapter discusses the core of the nether belief, including the idea of the soul impacts on the marvel tales, the ghost is more like all his life, or turns into a another thing, or has superpower in these tales, and sometimes the spirit can free itself from the body. All of these seemingly strange, but we are able to find a theoretical basis for them in the nether belief. The third chapter discusses the impact of the ghost concept in nether faith on the creation of the marvel tales. In marvel tales, ghosts live in extraordinary places, or graves, or Hades, but no matter where they live, they almost live a life before their death, which is different from suffering in hell like religious classics described. Thus, such tales would be affected by the ideas of the nether belief of China. The fourth chapter illustrates the impact of systems and rituals in nether belief on the creation of marvel tales. The fifth chapter discusses the general characteristics of our nether belief(i.e., patriarchal clan system character, inclusiveness and how life gets highlight in marvel tales).
