Technological news (TN) conveys the information relevant to science and technology. Its presupposed receptors are mainly lay readers. English TN has similarities with other EST (English for science and technology) such as academic thesis in terms of accurate message, conciseness and logical writing. However, it differs greatly in forms. For example, it contains fewer jargons and terminologies, its sentences are shorter and the style is vivid. All this combines to make it more readily acceptable by large audience.Domestication being an approach that intends to produce transparent and fluent translation, it tends to minimize as more as possible the strangeness of the foreign text for TL readers so as to make the translation as more readable as possible, thus is considered the leading strategy in E/C translation of TN that aims to convey the message rather than its form. Nevertheless, foreignization, being the strategy that breaks deliberately the norms of TL by retaining the foreignness of the original, has been widely recognized and employed as a necessary supplement. Firstly, the increasing intercultural contact has enabled people throughout the world to share more knowledge, especially in the field of science and technology. Report says 80% academic theses and 100% computer programme codes are written in English. It is evident that English holds predominant position in this area; on the other hand, technology develops at a high speed, thus domestication itself is far from sufficient in creating neologisms to match the emerging matters or technologies. This paper is to discuss how to balance between the application of foreignization and domestication in E/C translation of TN. The present writer considers both foreignization and domestication proper means provided they are employed at an appropriate extent, with the target reader's response as the primary translation criteria. Besides, the criteria are ever changing in response to the fluctuant social, cultural and environmental conditions.
