The Study Of Self-Esteem Construction And Its Development

Self-esteem is one of the important content in psychological researches and its history is very long, which results in layer upon layer without an end. The early psychologists as James and Cooley provided us with the concept and backgrounds of self-esteem; but in the 20' eighties to nineties, the researchers put forth self-concept in special field and social support influence on youngster self-esteem based on experimental researches and further broadened the research range of self-esteem from perspectives of cognition and emotion so as to reveal the inner relationship between low self-esteem and depression. There are certain achievement gained in this field in China, which are mainly on the definition of concept and structure of self-esteem. The researchers pay enough attention to dynamic introduction of self-esteem from international study field and study deeply on its characteristics, affected factors and functions.It tries to inquire into the definition of self-esteem and its related factors from self-esteem concept, structure and its development; and, as to structural problem of self-esteem, construct a structural model of self-esteem as an "gradation of global self-esteem and specific self-esteem". In self-esteem theory research, according to psychological theories to analyze the internal factors of self-esteem, an inner-model hypothesis of self-esteem developing was made in this study. At the same time, as an individual, the thought was a key role in self-esteem developing.Self-esteem, as the core and foundation of personality, plays an influential role not only in cognition, motivation, emotion, morality and social action, but also in psychological health of mankind. The purpose of study is to try a different idea in research on self-esteem theory and make people further recognize, help experimental researches, so that people could assure, apply to self-esteem in enhancing quality of life.
