In recent y ears, the cu lture industry as an infant industry has attracted increasin g attention of scholars and government. The development of cultural industries has gradually become an im portant way of achieving the go al of optim izing industrial structure and promoting the region econom ic transition, especi ally in the western re gion. It is of great significance to develop cultural industries so that the western region can give full play to "late-development advantage". Although culture industry has developed rapidly in China's western region, the scale of its development below the eastern region and midland; As to cultural enterprises, en terprises have too sm all scale of enterprises and poor profits; In addition, the capacity of transl ating cultural resources into products and services is weak.These problems restrict cultural industries' development in western region. W ith mounting pressure on our resources and the e nvironment, how to legitim ately and fully exploit culture resources of the western region and then realizing the sustainable development of cultural industries, certainly em erge in the process of the developm ent of culture industry. There is no doubt that paying much attention on improving the total factor productivity (TFP) of culture industry is in favor of the development of cultural industries' problems solving, which is to strengthen the co mpetitiveness of cultural enterprises, reach the goal o f economic great-leap-forward development have an important practical significance.This paper selects 11 provinces and cities in the western from 2005 to 2013 as the research sample, and calcu lates the TFP of culture industry in the weste rn and its decomposition index with the DEA-Malmquist index method. This paper also analyzes the influential factors of the growth of the TFP in the western region. The results show that the average growth rate of the TFP of cultural industries in the western presents the increasing trend, which mainly due to the technological progress. In addition to Guizhou Province, the DEA-Malmquist index of the rest of regions is more than 1. The TFP of cultural industries in two regions of northwest and southwest have a rising trend. And technology progress in southwest region faster than in the Northwest region. The conclusions are educed:the level of urbanization, local cultura 1 consumer demand, Public cultural infrastructure, the industry structure changes have a obvious promotion on the gr owth of cultural industries; Nevertheless, levels of hum an capital and cultural Industrial agglom eration have no significantly affect on the growth of the TFP of cultural industries.
