Facing the social transition of China, and the conflicts between rural culture and city culture, traditional culture and modern culture, Jia has been paying close attention to the real social life and the historical transition which our nation's historical fate is.In late 70s and early 80s in the last century, Jia was pursuing culture reflection, and laying stress on the analysis of citizens' deep-rooted bad habits, aiming to "disclose the pain and sufferings, so as to get the attention of treating and curing". In early 80s, Jia, on the one hand, was cheerful for the great changes in matter and spirit that the reform had brought to rural area. On the other hand, he was anxious about the splitting of people's values and cultural psychology that the social reform brought especially the relatively backward cultural attitude and the conservation-oriented spirit. Meanwhile, he was anxious about the loss of traditional culture because of the impact of modern culture. He was alert to and anxious about morality bankrupt, anti-nature and anti-human-nature in modern city civilization, and he hoped to make up the weakness of rural and city culture, so as to connect and mix their culture, aiming to have them develop in a harmony. In the middle and late 80s, because of the influence of reality development and in the turns in his life, Jia's awareness of independence further strengthened in his works. He paid more attention to talking about realities, and to the state of people's surviving culture, which reflected his anxiousness about and pursuit of values of modern people's lives. His creation in this period is an end to the past and a start to a brand new stage. This period became a transitional period which is important to creation in and after 90s.
