The basic education of art design is a forward training opening up to excellent designers. The learning of basic design is not only a bridge to professional design, but also the key of developing the basic quality and creativity of a designer.This thesis on the research of the potential contents of basic course is just coming from above-mentioned education ideal, to deeply analyze curriculum objectives, and to discuss how to choose, organize and balance the curriculum contents. The writing of this article is based on how can we show up the potential contents in the curriculum pedagogy, to train the students have the primary quality, attitude, values, designing thinking and consciousness which a professional designer possesses.In the introduction, first I analyze the research background that the total trend of education is base on human's entirely development, and point out a shortage on this field in the research of art design basic course. Then I give a definition of potential contents that it is the contents about develop students' attitude, belief, emotion, and values, etc, which can lead to forming a entire personality and developing their creative thinking.The second part is the apart explaining of three kinds of contents under the three-dimension objectives in art design basic course. After that is an analyze of the location, character, and the connotation of potential contents.The third part gives the theory foundations of potential contents, which come from the fields of philosophy, psychology and sociology. It is glad to see that the research of potential contents matches the developing of these theories.In the fourth part, several examples are offered to analyze how potential contents show up at home and abroad. This gives a practical reference in the real teaching.
