Objectives, The Expected Impact Of Emotional Intelligence Emotional Practicality And Emotional Preferences

The instrumental approach of emotion regulation suggest that people not simply prefer positive emotions and avoid negative emotions through the process. The emotion preference is affected by goals. People prefer emotionswhich can help achieve goals and avoid emotions which have no use.The present study was designed to investigate the main structure and acting factor of instrumental motivation of emotion regulation. The first research was conducted using self-designedquestionnaire to investigate (1)whether emotional preferences are influenced by goals,(2)whether the expected utility of emotions are considered when people prefer certain emotions, and (3)whether emotional intelligences moderate the relationship between goals and the expected utilities of emotions.The second research set up a more really situation about negotiation to investigate the difference of emotion preference and the expected utility of emotion between confrontational and collaborative goals.Theresult instructs that:(1)happy preference is influenced by goals (confrontational vs. collaborative); compared with pursuing a confrontational goal, people showed more happy preferencewhen pursuing a collaborative goal;(2)the expected utility of happy and anger is influenced by goals (confrontational vs. collaborative); compared with pursuing a confrontational goal, people expect happy more useful than pursuing a collaborative goal;(3)the expected utility of emotion partially mediated the influences between goals and emotion preferences;(4)the expected utility of anger as a mediator on the relation between goals and anger preferences was moderated by emotional intelligences; and the expected utility of happy as a mediator on the relation between goals and happy preferences was moderated by emotional intelligences.This study enriched the theoretical structure of instrumental motivation of emotion regulation and demonstrated that although the form of instrumental motivation of emotion regulation under collectivism culture is a little different from that under individualism culture, the essence of instrumental motivation is in the same.
