Research On The Concept Of Speculative Design And The Composition Of Unrealitic Aesthetics

Speculative design refers to presenting the vision for the future technology through inferring abstract problems rationally by the form of imaginary physics prop,which enlarges the limitation and negative influence of technology from a critical perspective.Based on the speculative design,alternative solution can be proposed to trigger imagination and discussion.“Speculative design” centers on questioning the“ affirmative design ” which insists on providing solution and intensifying the current situation and provides an opportunity for those designers who refuse to focus on production,technology simplification,desire-orientation and consumption only to set out on an exiting,delightful and inspiring adventure.Speculative design is a design methodology mainly applied in the Interactive Design teaching practices of the Royal College of Art(RCA),which is advocated by Dunne&Raby and is a design idea formed based on multiple-year experiments,teaching experiences and reflections.Dunne&Raby are good at taking design as medium and research method to stimulate the designers,the industry and the public to discuss the social,cultural and ethical significance of existing and emerging technologies.Wherein the speculative design works based on their cooperation are exhibited in the global museums,and some of them are collected permanently.The main planner Paola Antonelli of the Design Department of MoMA says that “The researched design by Dunne&Raby has changed the direction of contemporarydesign”.Owing to the large influence of Dunne&Raby in the industry and academic field,more and more scholars have realized the value in research&criticism media of design and have begun to conduct research on the idea,concept,design method,purpose,significance and practice of speculative design.Besides,some researchers of philosophy area have also participated in the researches on the theoretical value and significance of speculative design through analyzing the speculative design cases,corresponding social,political and cultural backgrounds.According to the incomplete statistics on the quantity of speculative design academic theses and works in domestic as well as the implementation situation of academic meetings,the speculative design is still in the development stage of concept explanation and works practice,therefore,systematic and theoretical researches remain to be strengthened.This paper mainly adopts literature review method,historical analysis method and case study method to research and summarize the background,idea,influence,significance and enlightenment of speculative design,introduces the principle of the pattern in visual psychology to conduct visual language analysis combined with visual design major.This paper consists of five chapters.Chapter I mainly introduces the background,research purpose and significance,domestic and overseas research situations and research method of speculative design.Chapter II mainly starts from the research of Anthony · Dunne to sort out the social,technical and cultural backgrounds of“speculative design”.Chapter III analyzes the speculative design and combines with cases to summarize the composition principle of unrealistic aesthetics.Chapter IV introduces Gestalt Psychology Visual Perception Principle and analyzes the perceptual process generated from speculative design works based on unique visual language and provides visual perception research perspective for the development of speculative design.Chapter V summarizes and prospects the enlightenment and significance of speculative design on design,technology and social development.
