Electronic maps of different kinds are widely used in daily life for its unique features such as more interaction with the user, more information, easy to share. The electronic maps could be categorized according to the different usage, target user and equipment that display the map etc. But it seems every company made the electronic maps according to their own standards (font, road label and color etc). Not much scientific research, especially cognitive psychological method has been used in the field. This research was aim to find a general method to know the default size of Character in electronic map.28 Chinese people with normal or corrected-to-normal vision participated in the three experiment of this research. Two different level of road complexity background were used throughout the experiments. Chinese characters with different spatial complexities evaluated by spatial frequency (Song font) were chosen as the target stimulus. The first experiment was aim to find the acuities (recognition threshold character size) of Chinese characters with road background. In the second experiment, Fault Chinese Characters were invented to find the comfort acuities of Chinese characters with road background. The last experiment explored the relationship between word spaces and acuities. The result of the first experiment showed that the complexity of both the background and the Chinese characters influenced the recognition of the characters and the threshold of this experiment was 7.24 minute. The second experiment found 17.27 minute was the threshold of comfort viewing, and the complexity of background and Chinese Characters (or not) didn't affect the threshold. The last experiment showed subjects spent more time on each map, but less time on each word which means to some extent, people conducted more efficiently in searching word as more words appeared on the map.
