Attention is an important domain in cognitive psychology, and attention is acognitive mechanism that helps to select and process important or interestinginformation while irrelevant information is largely ignored.The research conducted onattention mainly from the dimensions of temporal and spatial.The attentional blink is aphenomenon that we study attention from the temporal dimension.Chinese character has graphic,phonological,semantic information.There aregraphic,phonological,semantic connections between two Chinese characters. The twoChinese characters form a single word, they cannot be separated.we employed a rapid serial visual presentation(RSVP)stream of Chinese charactersvaried systematically the nature of T1and T2to investigate the impact on AB.In thenormal Chinese character RSVP stream,two randomly appeared bold black Chinesecharacters were referred to as targets,marked T1and T2.There were eight lags(stimulusonset asynchrony(SOA)) between T1and T2,from Lag1(no interveningitems,SOA=60ms) to Lag8(SOA=480ms) which were systematically varied.3to7distractors preceded T1and2-5followed T2.Participants are instructed to identifiedboth T1and T2at their own pace.Our results revealed that (1) the Chinese characters are able to elicit an standardAB pattern when there is no relation between T1-T2.(2) the connection between T1-T2modulates the magnitude and shape of AB function;namely,the AB deficit isdramatically attenuated in T1-T2related Chinese character pairs,the AB is absent in thetwo-character Chinese word condition.(3) the degree of connection between T1-T2pairsare two-character Chinese word,semantic related pairs,orthographically similarpairs,homophonic characters,irrelative characters respectively. The closer ties betweenT1and T2,the higher identification accuracy of targets,the average height of the lineacross lag.
