Philosophical Significance And Value On LuXun's Analysis Of National Character

The research, beginning with the concepts 'national character' and 'analysis on national character', firstly explores the causes of LuXun's theory-analysis on national character, and reveals its three epochs: Early, Middle,Late. Then, in perspective of philosophy, the interpretation on Luxun's works tries to find philosophical significances behind them, and discloses its critical reflection as well as ideal reconstruction. This can be useful to modernization because of its contemporary value.The devastating national situation; the impact from previous thinkers and theory of national character from abroad; the unique perception of LuXun himself in that era, all above stimulate the development of Luxun's thought of analysis of national character: in the early days, he advocates "benefit others" to establish the independent personality; in the mid-time, through reflecting on tradition, he critics socially and culturally on the defect of national character; in the late, with the class analytic method , he derives new "national soul" from different classical character.LuXun unifies the art and philosophy to explore general 'national character' in the literature pattern : irrational novels and essays. This paper stands on Luxun's texts, takes the critic of national character as the core, excavates the meaning world behind literary images, opens up four dimensions: retrospecting Confiusian 'authorative person' ,criticizing negative the view on life of Daoism, rejecting indifference and refusing "mean", pursuing ideal personality, in which the emphasis lies. Here exhibits two initiations: seeing from the philosophical perspective , and revealing three connotations, which Luxun's ideal personality includes, namely intelligent raw man, ideal existence in harmony,moral perfect of "unifying knowledge and action". Meanwhile, the two-folded features of 'analysis on national character', positive and negative, are given a full display.Through reflecting on tradition in his works, Luxun inquiresbehavior and psychological mechanism, which aims at reaching the social consciousness in the whole, in order to realize the rebuilding of national character. Generally speaking, the researchers used to stress his excessive critic of Luxun's 'analysis on national character', however , they usually ignore the integration of reflective critics and construction. In my opinion, his excessiveness is only apparence,'to rebuild'is actual substance. Seeing from this view, 'analysis on national character', which can be considered as the living cultural resource to produce spiritual energy ,plays an important role in the value construction in contemporary time, and helps to cultivate new personality of modern civilians.
