The poets of the adherents of a former dynasty of Zhejiang in the Southern Song Dynasty lived in the special historical age of losing their nation and ruled by the Mongols of the Yuan Dynasty. Because of the same regional environment and cultural background, their creation of the ci poetry had a lot in common in the way of subject-choosing, theme-describing and art-seeking. Their hardworking, especially seeking art, made an active contribution to the development of the elegant ci poetry and played an important role in the construction of the regional culture of Zhejiang.First, in the way of subject-choosing, they prefered praising things, congratulating on one's birthday and the four seasons and festivals, etc. These subjects held a considerable part among their creation of the ci poetry. They not only continued the features of the development of the Song ci poetry since the Southern Song Dynasty, but were the result of the luxurious customs in the society of the Southern Song Dynasty. What's more, they were the result of subject-choosing for describing painful feelings in the special historical age.Secondly, in the way of theme-describing, the pain of losing own nation and the humiliation ruled by the Mongols caused the content of the sorrow of losing their nation, thinking of the old nation and friends and the hermits' feelings to be the theme of the ci poetry by the adherents of a former dynasty of Zhejiang then. They showed out clear features at that time. The changing age strengthened greatly expressing feelings of the ci poetry.Thirdly, in the way of art-seeking, they admired Jiang Kui and advocated standards. They practiced and worked hard in the creation of the ci poetry, and formed the mild, implicit and elegant style of the ci poetry, which was quite different from that of the poets of Jiangxi at that time who emphasized the expression of the ci poetry and replaced the ci poetry with poetry so that the ci poetry tended to be the prose poetry. Their ci poetry reflected the regional features clearly. In terms of following the forms of literature, they worked hard, accumulated a wealth of experience for the expression of art and made them ripe further. The creation by the poets of the adherents of a former dynasty of Zhejiang in the Southern Song Dynasty, represented by Zhang Yan, Zhou Mi, etc., not only strengthened the expression of the ci poetry but enriched their artistic expression. Their seeking and practicing provided a use for reference to later generations and resulted directly in the prosperityof the ci poetry of Western Zhejiang in the early Qing Dynasty.
