Spoken English teaching/learning is of great importance in the Teaching of English as Foreign Language. However, it is difficult to achieve satisfied effect by delivering such instructions through the Internet. And instructional design, among all of those that may influence effect of network-based spoken English teaching/learning, is one of the few crucial factors. The writer of the thesis, a member of the working group of the instructional design of a network-based spoken English program designed for the students at the Distance Education College of Shanghai International Studies University, participated in the whole process of the instructional design, and made a great deal of relevant researches during the process. This thesis is written on the base of these researches and experience.The thesis consists of three major parts. The first part, including Chapter 1 and 2, briefly introduces the theories involved in the instructional design of the internet-assisted spoken English program including relevant language learning theories such as the Constructivism theory and the input-output learning theories, factors influencing EFL learners'oral communication, and theories and principles of instructional design of distance education in the new era of technology.The second part, Chapter 3, provides a detailed discussion on the instructional design of the internet-assisted spoken English program on the basis of the real experience of the curriculum design, the delivery of the core course"The Comprehensive Spoken English Course (internet-assisted)", as well as the design of the assisted English learning website"Joy English City"and the after-class communication activities. This part is further divided into three sections: curriculum design and delivery of the core course"The Comprehensive Spoken English Course (internet-assisted)"; principles for design, the structure, and the brief introduction of contents, of the assisted English learning website"Joy English City"; and principles and forms of the after-class communication activities.The last part, Chapter 4 and 5, is the evaluation of the program and the conclusion.
