Task-based language teaching (TBLT) has become a heated topic in second language acquisition and EFL teaching. In the past 20 years, it has transformed the basic concept of language use into practical classroom teaching method. The essence of task-based learning is a process of "learning by doing", in which learners engage in naturalistic learning through experiencing and exploring language. In 2001, the Ministry of Education issued the New English Curriculum Standards for English Education and advocates task-based language teaching in middle schools. However, task-based approach has not been accepted by most English teachers, which can not satisfy the demand of Chinese new course reform. With the rapid development of computer technology, the Internet has been introduced to all aspects of people's life. So naturally, integrating the Internet into the classroom teaching is now becoming an inexorable trend. The necessary help of such a powerful technology will make TBLT become valuable. This thesis is to introduce the categories of TBLT, make a careful review on researches concerned, do some investigation into both theoretical and practical basis, and implement TBLT in the writing class of Senior High School. The study analyzes the necessity and feasibility of the Internet-assisted TBLT, and presents some ideal ways of task-based writing instruction through Internet. The author believes that students' writing competence will be greatly improved by means of TBLT.
