This thesis aims at casting some light on more effective pronunciation teaching in Chinese universities aided by computerized speech lab (CSL) system. It explores, from a number of perspectives, the development, the pedagogies, the techniques and integration with listening and speaking skills.The thesis falls into four parts. Part one is a brief introduction to the value of pronunciation teaching and the objectives of the thesis. In part two, the related literature is reviewed from four aspects: the historical development, the affecting factors, the major principles and the applied pedagogies. In part three, the author analyses the current situation of pronunciation teaching in Chinese universities and put forward some practical ideas concerned; the author also suggests that the CSL system should be employed in pronunciation classroom. The last part concludes the thesis by summarizing the major points covered in the preceding parts and makes some suggestions for teacher training.
